This policy explains what BoxSmartly (the "app," "we," "us") does with information when you use it. BoxSmartly is a moving-inventory app for iPhone that helps you label boxes with QR codes and find what you packed.
BoxSmartly is an independent app developed by Muhammad Ali Shahid. For any privacy question, contact hello@boxsmartly.com. We're the data controller for the limited diagnostic data described below.
Everything you create in BoxSmartly is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device database:
We do not receive, store, or have access to any of this content. If you delete the app, this data is removed from your device.
If you buy Pro and keep iCloud backup on, your inventory syncs through your own Apple iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so it's available on your other devices and protected if you lose your phone. This data lives in your private iCloud and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy — we cannot read it. You can turn backup off in Settings, remove the app's iCloud data from Settings → iCloud on your device, or use the app's "Delete iCloud Data" option.
To keep the app stable and understand which features are used, we collect a small amount of anonymous data through the trusted services below. None of it is linked to your identity, and none of it is used to track you.
| Data | What it is | Why | Via |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product Interaction (Usage Data) | Anonymous, aggregated app events — counts, feature names, and durations only. Never the names or contents of your boxes, items, photos, or searches. | To understand which features help and improve the app | Google Firebase Analytics |
| Crash Data & Other Diagnostic Data | Crash reports and technical diagnostics (device model, OS version, stack traces) when something goes wrong. | To find and fix bugs and crashes | Firebase Crashlytics |
| Purchase History | Whether the one-time Pro upgrade was purchased or restored. Payment itself is handled by Apple — we never see your card or billing details. | To unlock and restore Pro features | Apple In-App Purchase & RevenueCat |
BoxSmartly asks for a few permissions the first time you use a feature. Each is used only on your device — nothing captured through them is sent to us:
You can change any of these anytime in iOS Settings › BoxSmartly.
We rely on a few reputable providers to run the app. Their handling of any data is covered by their own privacy policies:
The limited data we collect is used only to operate, maintain, and improve BoxSmartly — fixing crashes, understanding which features are useful, and unlocking purchases you've made. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
On-device and iCloud inventory data stays until you delete it or remove the app. Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained by our providers according to their standard retention periods and then deleted or aggregated. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to honor your lifetime Pro entitlement.
Because your inventory never leaves your device (except to your own iCloud), it stays protected by your device passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and Apple's encryption. The small amount of anonymous diagnostic data we do collect is transmitted over encrypted connections.
Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/UK GDPR or California CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because BoxSmartly has no account and the data we collect is anonymous and not linked to you:
If you have a request or question about your data, email hello@boxsmartly.com and we'll help.
BoxSmartly is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we'll address it.
BoxSmartly is available worldwide. The anonymous diagnostic data described above may be processed by our service providers on servers outside your country, including the United States, under safeguards required by applicable law.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Continued use of BoxSmartly after an update means you accept the revised policy.
